SURRE-I HUMAYUN
.

It was a regiment organised to deliver the money and the gifts named as Surre, from Istanbul to Haremeyn (Medina and Mecca).

The person who was responsible from the dispatch of Surre was called as Daru’s-saade Agasi. Surre-i Humayun was started with the beginning of Recep month and finished with its departure on the 12th of Recep. On that day, the Sultans had attended the ceremonies as well.

After the regiment had arrived Damascus, the Surre emini, left the treasuries to the Governor of Damascus whom secured its transportation to Mecca and its distribution. After the distribution of the Surre, the sheriff of Mecca sent his blessing and letter to the Sultan with the messenger.

After the World War I, the Surre, which was sent to Damascus, came back to Istanbul at the end of the defeat and this tradition was ended.
