KARA MUHENDISHANESI (LAND ENGINEERING)

It was the school founded to train artillery and engineering troops of the Ottoman Army, in 1795, in Istanbul. First students were chosen among the talented novices form the artillery and engineering corpses. The school had begun education with 80 students and later 10 of them were sent to Britain for a further education. In 1847, the name of the school had been changed and for several times it had been transferred to different buildings.
