The National Forces were committees founded against the Greek occupation in Izmir. Until a regular army had been organised these forces led the defence against Turkey’s occupation.

These forces emerged form the reaction of the nation, and their target was to live independently in their own lands. The Turkish Grand National Assembly united all the national forces and organised a regular army following the Inonu War.
