HIDIV
.

It is a rank given to the governors of Egypt, in the reign of Sultan Abdulaziz. First, Sultan Abdulaziz, gave “hidiv” rank to the grandson of Kavalali Mehmed Ali Pasha, Kamil Pasha, on the 8th June of 1867, on the demand of Fuad Pasha. Egypt hidivs were equal to the sheikulislam and the grand vizier in the protocol. When they were in the same assembly the hidiv took part after the grand vizier and the sheikulislam. The British abolished Hidiv rank after they occupied Egypt, on 19th February of 1914.
