It is the period of interregnum following Sultan Yildirim Bayezid’s defeat in the Ankara War (28th July 1402). Sultan Mehmet Celebi ended this period after defeating his brothers on throne succession.

One of the sons of Bayezid, Suleyman Celebi, declared his sultanate in Edirne, after the Ottoman withdrawal against Mongolian ruler Timur, in the Ankara plain. Grand vizier Candarli Ali Pasha, Murat Pasha and Yeniceri commander Hasan Aga supported him.

Isa Celebi declared his sovereignty in Balikesir, and Celebi Mehmet declared his, in Amasya.

Musa Celebi and Mustafa Celebi (Duzmece Mustafa) were slaved by Timur together Sultan Yildirim Bayezit.

Timur stayed in the Ottoman lands for eight months, after his victory. He had pillaged the Ottoman Country and he had enlivened the Anatolian Principalities that had been annexed by the Ottomans. He left Anatolia, after he divided the country in to four sultanates among Bayezid’s sons.

First, Mehmet Celebi started to operate to unite and restore the Ottoman territories. He organised a strong Turkmen Army excluding the Turkmen Khans, in the central Anotolia. The first war was fought, between Musa Celebi and Isa Celebi, in Bursa. Although Musa Celebi captured Bursa and extended his sultanate, Isa Celebi recaptured Bursa again, in a short time.

This authority struggles among the sons of the Sultan continued until, Mehmet Celebi united the Ottoman State again, by defeating his brothers.
