| As a word it means “succession”. Besides this, it is the duty and the rank to rule all the Muslims and to protect the Islam, held after the death of Muhammad. Muhammad was dominating both the religious and the governmental administrations, therefore he was called as the “imam”. As the time passed the words “imamet” and “hilafet” became synonymous. | ||
