ARABIA (YEMEN-HEJAZ) FRONT SIDE
.

It is commonly called as "Yemen Front". During, The First World War the Ottoman Empire tried to defend the holy cities in Arabia by an army of four divisions. The divisions of the seventh army corps were positioned in Hejaz, Asir, Sona and Hubejdiyeone. As these divisions were positioned very far; new soldiers, supplies and weapons could not have been sent. In 1916, with Britain’s provocation, the Arabs rebelled against the Ottoman forces. The sheriff of Mecca, Huseyin, proclaimed independence. Seyyid Idris of Asir also participated in this mutiny, and Imam Yahya of Yemen declared his loyalty to the Ottoman sultan.

Mustafa Kemal Pasha, who had come to Sam to be appointed to be the Commander of Hejaz Expeditionary Forces, on February 1917, wanted to evacuated Hejaz, instead of defending the city. Because of the moral reasons this will was not put into practise, and also his appointment to the Seventh Army Corps was delayed. The Seventh Army Corps defended Yemen and North of Adir with great difficulty until the end of the First World War; but surrendered on 23rd January 1919, following the Mondros Armistice.
